Custard Bread
Custard bread recipe with pictures, 13 steps in total. Use all ingredients except butter. Start the bread machine's kneading program for 30 minutes. Add the softened butter and continue kneading for about 30 minutes until the dough reaches the windowpane stage (a smooth, elastic membrane is not essential; a perfect windowpane stage is better).

Step 1
All ingredients except butter are added to the bread machine's dough kneading program for 30 minutes. The softened butter is then added and kneaded for another 30 minutes or so until the dough reaches the windowpane stage. A perfect windowpane test isn't necessary; a smoother, more elastic dough is better.

Step 2
Cover and let it ferment until doubled in size. Meanwhile, make the custard sauce. Mix the egg yolks and sugar together and whisk quickly until pale and increased in volume.

- 03
Step 3
Add cornstarch and mix until smooth and free of lumps.

- 04
Step 4
Bring the milk to a boil in a pot. Slowly pour ¼ of the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, stirring well. Then pour the mixture back into the milk pot and heat over low heat, stirring constantly. (I mean low heat, and constant stirring.)

- 05
Step 5
It won't easily drop in temperature; let it cool and set aside.

- 06
Step 6
Take out the dough after it has risen and deflate it.

- 07
Step 7
Divide the dough into several portions, roll them into balls, cover with plastic bags, take a portion of dough, roll it into a round disc, fill with custard filling, and place it in a mold.

- 08
Step 8
Take a piping bag, fill it with an appropriate amount of custard sauce, and seal it as shown in the picture. If you don't have a piping bag, you can use a hard plastic bag. Set aside. Preheat the oven to 30 degrees Celsius. Place two bowls of hot water at the bottom of the oven, and let the bread rise 35 minutes.

- 09
Step 9
Brush the dough with egg wash. If the dough is too wet, it won't be easy to shape into complex forms. Cut a small opening in a piping bag and pipe circular patterns. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 5 minutes, then bake on the middle rack for 15 minutes until golden brown.

Step 10
You can roll out small dough balls into long sheets, add custard sauce, roll them up into small rolls, and arrange them side by side to form a large loaf. Brush with egg wash, and then sprinkle with chopped nuts, chopped broccoli, and pork floss.

After coloring, it becomes an enticing golden yellow.
