1. Treatment of fresh yellow flowers: Remove all the stamens of fresh yellow flowers to remove most of the colchicine.

2. Soak the yellow flowers without stamens in light salt water for 30 minutes.

Colchicine-like substances can strongly irritate the digestive tract and cause acute poisoning, with symptoms such as nausea, thirst, vomiting and diarrhea. If 20 mg of colchicine is ingested at one time, the person will die. However, that is the amount found in 10 kilograms of fresh daylily, so such extreme situations usually do not occur. So when you buy fresh cauliflower, the seller will remind you: Fresh day lily must be blanched in boiling water before frying before eating.

But once the crisp and tender chrysanthemums are blanched, they probably have no edible value and the taste must be like chewing rice paper. So as a compromise, you should destroy the flowers before eating: because colchicine is mainly found in the stamens, so you can remove most of the colchicine by picking off all the stamens of fresh yellow flowers. Then soak the yellow flowers with the stamens removed in light salt water for 30 minutes, and you can eat them with confidence.
