It also contains a variety of low-boiling and high-boiling volatile carboxylic acids such as isobutyric acid, isovaleric acid, n-valeric acid, crotonoleic acid, cis-2-methylbutenoic acid, heptanoic acid, decanoic acid, isodecanoic acid, pyruvic acid, caprylic acid and lauric acid. In addition, it also contains β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, capsanthin, capsanthin, violaxanthin, solanine, solanidine and citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, etc.

2. The seeds contain solanine, solanidine, 4α-methyl-5α-cholest-8(14)-en-3β-ol, cycloartanol, cycloartenol, 24-methylenecycloartanol and lupeol.

3. The fruits of the same genus plant, Capsicum annuum, contain capsaicin.
