The harm of Vietnamese basa fish

The harm of Vietnamese basa fish

The geographical range of Basa fish is limited to a certain extent, and the living environment of this fish is not in our country. However, the price of this fish is relatively low, and it also tastes delicious. Vietnamese Basa fish is a type of Basa fish. This fish is quite popular in our country, but this fish has many hazards. So what are the hazards of Vietnamese Basa fish?

From the perspective of export markets, China has replaced the United States as the largest market for Vietnamese pangasius exports. According to Chinese customs statistics, from January to November 2017, China imported a total of 48,801,624 kilograms of pangasius fillets (HS code: 0304) from Vietnam, with a total value of US$106,005,767.

Basa fish is very popular in the Chinese market because of its low price, few bones, tender meat, refined product quality and high utilization rate. Especially in the catering market, Basa fish has become one of the important ingredients and has even stolen the limelight from locally farmed tilapia. In addition, the rapid development of China's pre-packaged food industry has also led to the popularity of Basa fish, which can be seen in some airplane meals and school canteens.

But is Basa fish really suitable for human consumption? In 2017, Fuzhou Customs destroyed a smuggling gang headed by Lu from Fujian Anxin Company. The company set up subsidiaries overseas to purchase Vietnamese basa fish, tuna, shrimp and other aquatic products and shipped them to the China-Vietnam border. The company uses border trade to send smuggled products into the Chinese market. It is understood that the company's Basa fish series products have a market share of more than 40% in China, and more than 70% in key areas. Moreover, Anxin is the designated partner of the Vietnam Basa Fish Association. Why did Vietnam's semi-official organization designate Anxin as a partner? Are Vietnamese Pangasius fish companies being encouraged to enter the Chinese market through smuggling? The reason for this is unknown. But it does bring potential harm to domestic consumers, and most importantly, it seriously damages national interests.

Previously, many European and American countries intended to ban the import of Basa fish because they doubted the product's hygiene and safety, net weight, and excessive soaking standards. Now, the Pakistan Food Safety Committee has concluded after testing that Basa fish is not suitable for human consumption. Could this give Chinese practitioners something to think about?
