How to choose golden melon

How to choose golden melon

Golden melon is a relatively common melon and it is also a food that tastes particularly good, so many people like to eat this fruit. Of course, if you want to choose delicious golden melon, you need to master certain skills. If the melon you choose is not ripe or not fresh enough, its taste will be greatly affected. Here I will introduce to you how to choose golden melon!

1. Upside

A ripe melon will be very light, while an unripe melon will be very heavy. You can roughly judge its ripeness by weighing it in your hand.

2. Look

Not all ripe melons will be sweet, because it depends on many factors such as whether there is too much rain, sufficient sunlight, the variety of melon, etc. The bigger the melon, the higher the chance of a fool appearing, which is why they say "big fools" are so popular. The smaller and more crooked the melon is, the sweeter it tends to be. If there are worm holes bitten by crickets, the melon will tend to be very sweet. Different melon varieties require different techniques for identifying the appearance color. For example, my favorite is the white sugar can (a kind of cantaloupe). This kind of melon is relatively small and round, and is usually white with a slightly yellowish color.

When choosing, you should not only look at the size, shape, color, wormholes, etc. of the melon, but also its freshness. To determine the freshness, touch the skin of the melon with your hand. If it is very smooth, it is a fresh melon. If it feels soft, it means it has been stored for too long and the melon has lost its fragrance.

3. Smell

The main feature of Northeastern cantaloupe is that its skin is very thin, and you can smell a sweet fragrance especially at the top of the melon. This requires the use of your nose. There are many kinds of melon aromas, and the taste and sweetness are different. Usually, the sweeter the smell, the more refreshing and pleasant it is. This kind of melon is often very sweet. However, some aromas make you feel uncomfortable, and the taste of this kind of melon is not good, which is often what we often call a smelly melon. The skill of using your nose needs to be trained, and it depends entirely on the sense of fragrance. If the melon has no fragrance at all, its sweetness is very low or it is a raw melon.

4. Pinch

When buying melons, the seller will not let you squeeze the melons hard, as this can easily damage them. The so-called pinching method is to pick up the melon and gently squeeze it with your fingers. This action is almost unnoticeable. Why do we pinch the melon? It is to feel the thickness of the melon wall. The skin of a raw melon is thick, while the wall of a ripe melon is thin. When the melon is ripe, the innermost wall will begin to become sandy and the wall will become thinner. If you gently pinch the melon wall with your hands and feel it tremble slightly, it means the melon is ripe with thin walls and crisp flesh; if the melon wall feels soft when you pinch it, it means the melon is overripe, which is what we often call a soft melon; if the melon wall feels firm when you pinch it, it means the skin is thick and it is mostly an unripe melon.
