Tianjin's Four Major Snacks

Tianjin's Four Major Snacks

Speaking of the Tianjin area, I believe people are familiar with it. For example, Tianjin has very famous traditional cultures such as crosstalk and quick-talking, which are very popular with many people. Tianjin also has many special snacks. For example, Tianjin Mahua and Goubuli Baozi are well-known Tianjin specialties. These two foods are among the four major snacks in Tianjin. I believe people are very curious about what the four major snacks are. Let’s introduce in detail what the four major snacks in Tianjin are.

The Four Specialties of Tianjin are originally only three of the Tianjin snacks, namely, "Gubuli Steamed Buns", "Shibajie Mahua" and "Erduoyan Fried Cake". However, for the sake of auspiciousness and catchiness, later generations added "Maobuwen Dumplings" to pair with "Gubuli Steamed Buns", and thus the "Four Specialties of Tianjin" were formed.

Goubuli steamed buns

The dough and fillings of Goubuli steamed buns are carefully selected, the production process is strict, and the appearance is beautiful, especially the pleats of the buns are evenly symmetrical, and each bun has no less than 15 pleats. The freshly-baked buns are fresh, non-greasy, and fragrant and delicious. Goubuli steamed buns are mainly fresh meat buns, and there are 6 categories and 98 varieties, including three-fresh buns, seafood buns, braised meat buns, and vegetarian buns. In November 2011, the State Council announced the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, and the "Traditional Handmade Techniques of Goubuli Steamed Buns" project was included.

Ear-shaped fried cake

Ear-shaped fried cake originated in the Guangxu period of the late Qing Dynasty. It was created by the Hui Muslim Liu Wanchun. The fried cake is made with carefully selected ingredients and is meticulously made. It is inexpensive and of high quality, earning him the nickname "Fried Cake Liu". Rich families and common people nearby would buy his fried cakes for birthdays and wedding banquets, taking advantage of the homonym of the word "gao" (cake) and the auspiciousness of making rapid progress. His business became more and more prosperous. At that time, the ear-shaped fried cakes were made with top-quality sticky yellow rice that was ground with water and fermented, and top-quality red beans that were boiled and peeled, then fried with brown sugar juice to make the filling. After wrapping, add warm oil (130℃) into the pan and turn it frequently. The fried cake will have a crispy outer skin and a sweet and refreshing bean filling.

Eighteen Street Ma

Guifaxiang Shibajie Mahua is a famous Han Chinese snack with good color, aroma and taste. Tianjin’s century-old Mahua shop is known as the first of the “Three Wonders of Tianjin” along with Tianjin Goubuli steamed buns and Erduoyan fried cakes. Guifaxiang Shibajie Mahua was recognized as a "Famous Chinese Snack" at the first National Famous Snack Recognition Conference. In 1996, it was named a "Chinese Time-honored Brand" by the Ministry of Domestic Trade of China. It has won the National Golden Tripod Award and the Gold Award at the Asia-Pacific Expo, and has been recognized as a well-known Chinese trademark, a famous Tianjin product, and a famous Tianjin trademark.

Cats don't smell dumplings

Maobuwen Dumplings was founded in 1996 and is a famous snack in Tianjin, China. It is a brand created by imitating the name of Goubuli. Maobuwen dumplings were originally made by Tianjin Maobuwen Restaurant. The fillings include pork and cabbage, pork and leek, pork and fennel, and pork and celery. They are mainly sold as frozen foods. Maobuwen Dumplings were recognized as a "Famous Chinese Snack" by the China Cuisine Association in 1997. Maobuwen brand quick-frozen dumplings, a product of Maobuwen Frozen Food Co., Ltd., have been recognized as a "famous Chinese snack" and one of the "Four Wonders of Tianjin".
