How to preserve river crabs and sea crabs is different from how to preserve live crabs. Remember not to put river crabs in water when storing them. River crabs cannot get wet. Just put them in a container and cover them with a wet towel. Try to choose crabs with green shells. Crabs with green shells and yellow inside are not very fresh and have a short shelf life. Tie it up with a rope and put it in the pot. Open the lid a little bit to allow air to flow, and put it in the refrigerator. In my experience, the longest time to store it is no more than three days, because if it is kept for too long, the crab will become thinner and it will consume nutrients.
