What should I avoid eating if I have constipation?

Many people do not think that constipation is a disease because it is very common in our lives. Generally speaking, people should defecate about twice a day. If you only defecate 2 or 3 times a week, then you are constipated. Generally speaking, eating more foods rich in dietary fiber can relieve the symptoms. So, do you know what foods are forbidden to eat when you have constipation?

1. Spicy and hot foods are taboos for patients with constipation.

Common spicy and stimulating foods include chili, pepper, and Sichuan pepper, as well as warm foods such as mutton, dog meat, beef, rooster, seahorse, and lychee. After eating, they will aggravate the dryness and heat of the gastrointestinal tract, damage body fluids, make the stool more dry and hard, and make defecation difficult.

2. Avoid foods that cause bloating and are difficult to digest

Common foods include sweet potatoes, potatoes, onions, etc. These foods will cause gastrointestinal flatulence after being eaten, aggravating the symptoms of abdominal distension and abdominal pain in patients with constipation.

3. Avoid astringent foods such as persimmons, lotus seeds, sorghum, and pomegranates

Because these foods are relatively astringent, eating them can weaken intestinal motility and make stool difficult for patients with constipation.

4. Don’t eat too much sweet or dairy food

Because too much sugar can weaken the motility of the gastrointestinal tract, if patients with constipation consume too much, it will be more difficult to defecate, which will aggravate the condition.

5. Don’t drink milk

Because milk contains calcium, drinking too much will make stool dry and difficult to excrete.

6. Avoid drinking alcohol, coffee, strong tea and other stimulating beverages

Because various types of alcohol and coffee are warm in nature, they can damage intestinal fluid. It causes dry stools and aggravates constipation. The tannic acid contained in tea has an astringent effect, which can weaken intestinal peristalsis and make stool difficult to excrete.
