How to make onion salad without making it spicy

Onion is a food ingredient that greatly promotes human health. There are many ways to eat onions. One of the most common and classic ways is to eat cold onions. However, the spiciness of onions is well known. If they are not handled well during the cold salad process, the cold salad onions will naturally be spicier. Here I will introduce to you how to make cold onion salad without making it spicy.

1. Selection of onions

The more common onions on the market are purple onions and white onions. Purple onions taste spicy, while white onions taste sweet, so white onions are more suitable for cold dishes, but purple onions can also be used for cold dishes, and they taste good if handled properly.

2. Methods and techniques for cutting onions

Usually a medium-sized onion can be cut into a plate. Before slicing, cut off the head and tail of the onion, peel off the old and thin outer layer of onion skin, and cut it in half from the middle as shown in the picture below. Then cut each half into shreds. The thinner the shreds, the easier it is to taste.

3. Pretreatment techniques for onion shreds

Spread the chopped onions with your hands so that they will be easier to season. After breaking up, you can directly add seasonings and mix it cold, but the cold onion mix made in this way will be spicy. If you want to remove the spicy taste of the onion, you should pre-process it in advance.

Method 1: Wash the onion shreds in clean water once or twice to allow the spicy substances in the onion to flow into the water. Then take out the onion shreds, drain the water and serve it cold.

Method 2: Put the chopped onion in clean water, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to soak overnight, remove from the water and mix well.

Although the above two methods can reduce the spiciness of onions, other nutrients will also be lost and they are unhygienic. I do not recommend these two methods.

Method 3: The second pre-treatment method is to add some vinegar to the onion shreds, mix well and leave it for more than 2 hours or overnight, and then use it to mix it cold and it will no longer be spicy.

After the onion shreds are processed, they can be served cold. There are many ways to cook cold onion salad. Here we only recommend 4 relatively simple and delicious methods.

4. How to make cold onion salad

Ingredients: appropriate amount of shredded onion, appropriate amount of sweet noodle sauce, and one tablespoon of vinegar.

Method: Mix the shredded onion with vinegar, then add appropriate amount of sweet noodle sauce and mix well.

The sweet noodle sauce here can be replaced with bean paste or chili sauce, or you can choose other suitable sauces according to personal preference, especially the taste of sweet noodle sauce goes well with onions. If you prefer a stronger taste, you can add some salt and a little sesame oil at the end and mix well.
