Northerners like to eat pasta the most, and pasta is the main food, while southerners prefer to eat rice, and rice is also the main food. Every household eats white rice every day, but some people cook rice with moderate hardness, while others cook rice that is too hard or too soft. Steaming rice may seem simple and ordinary, but it actually involves a lot of knowledge. The same rice, the same pot, but the rice steamed by different people is different. As the basis of three meals a day, a bowl of fragrant rice almost determines half of the success of a meal.

Therefore, if you want to learn how to cook, you must first cook well. So, how can you use a rice cooker to steam soft, non-sticky, and fragrant rice?

Step 1: Wash the rice. Wash rice 2-3 times in cold water. When washing, stir the rice gently with chopsticks. Do not rub it hard and do not wash the rice too many times.

Tip: Many people think that rice needs to be washed several times to be clean. In fact, this is not the case. It is best not to wash rice more than 3 times. If you wash it too many times, the nutrients in the rice will be lost, and the aroma of the rice will be greatly reduced after steaming. In addition, rice water can be used to wash your face or water flowers, and the effect is extremely good.

Step 2: Soak the rice. Before steaming the rice, we first soak the rice in cold water for 30-60 minutes (if you want the best taste, you can use purified water) to let the rice grains absorb all the water, so that the steamed rice will look fuller.

Tip: You don't need too much water to soak the rice, just enough to cover the rice. This is to avoid adding too much water and then pouring it out, which will cause a certain degree of nutritional loss.

Step 3: The ratio of rice and water. The ratio of rice to water is generally 1:1.2. For the elderly with bad teeth or infants and young children who like to eat softer rice, the ratio can be adjusted to 1:1.5. Usually, rice cookers come with a dedicated measuring cup. You don’t have to worry about the rice being too soft or too dry when measuring the rice and water with the measuring cup.

Step 4: Add appropriate amount of vinegar and oil. Add half a spoonful of salad oil and 2-3 grams of vinegar to each plate of rice. Just add a little salad oil and vinegar to the rice, the steamed rice will be more fragrant.

Step 5: Stew the rice. When the rice cooking switch jumps to keep warm, do not cut off the power supply or open the lid immediately. It should be simmered in the keep warm state for another 3-5 minutes. The rice made in this way will not be too watery, will not easily stick to the pan, and will taste better.

Key point: Chlorine in tap water can destroy the vitamins in rice. Adding vinegar can protect the vitamins. Not only do you not have to worry about the sour taste, but on the contrary, the rice steamed with vinegar will have a stronger aroma and can also make the rice easier to store. Especially in the hot summer, be sure to add it! Of course, you can also use lemon juice or citrus juice instead of vinegar, which can also eliminate the stale smell in the rice. In addition, you can also add some tea leaves, which will not only make the rice better in color and more fragrant, but also provide good nutrition, and have the benefits of digestion and removal of greasiness!
