List of medicines for a home first aid kit

The role of a home first aid kit in the family is very important, so every normal family should have a home first aid kit. Moreover, a home first aid kit should include a variety of medicines to deal with various dangerous situations that may occur. Therefore, when preparing a home first aid kit, the list of medicines is very important, so here are some lists of medicines for home first aid kits.

A home first aid kit is roughly divided into three parts:

1. Dressings

Mainly refers to medical gauze, cotton swabs, bandages, Band-Aids, etc.

2. Equipment

It mainly refers to thermometers, disposable medical gloves, tourniquets, medical tweezers, medical scissors, hemostatic forceps, etc.

3. Pharmaceuticals

Topical medications: alcohol, gentian violet, iodine, cooling oil, Yunnan Baiyao, safflower oil, eye drops, pain-relieving patches, allergy medicines, etc.

Oral medication: cold medicine, heat relief medicine, pain reliever, motion sickness medicine, digestive medicine, antidiarrhea medicine, etc.

1. List of essential medicines for common home first aid kits:

1. First aid manual

According to statistics from the International Red Cross, only 12% of adults worldwide are able to take emergency rescue measures in emergencies, and only 5% of these measures are effective. Many families have a lot of stuff in their first aid kits, but they don’t know how to use first aid. Lack of first aid knowledge makes many of us at a loss when an accident happens, so a first aid manual is the most important. First aid manuals are available at most bookstores or by downloading bound copies online.

2. Thermometer

When using a mercury thermometer, you need to shake off the mercury column first and wipe off the sweat under your armpits for 10 minutes; when using an electronic thermometer, you need to place the probe at the location where the temperature needs to be measured until you hear a beep and read the measured value. Household electronic thermometers also have a service life, generally around 5 years.

3. Band-Aid

Used for small wounds and wound bandaging, all sizes of large, medium and small are needed. Be sure to have both waterproof Band-Aids and medicated Band-Aids ready.

4. Sterilize gauze

Used to cover wounds. It is not likely to leave cotton threads on the wound like cotton, and it will not pull the wound when removed. You can also use a bandage, which is elastic and can be used to bandage wounds without hindering blood circulation. The 2-inch size is suitable for hands, and the 3-inch size is suitable for feet.

5. Triangle scarf

Also known as a triangular bandage, it has multiple uses, such as supporting injured upper limbs, fixing dressings or fractures, etc.

6. Round-head scissors, pliers, disposable gloves

Round-tipped scissors are safer for cutting tape or bandages. It can also be used to cut clothing when necessary. Forceps can be used to hold dressings instead of hands, or to remove dirt from wounds, etc. Disposable gloves can prevent the human body from direct contact with wounds and avoid cross infection.

7. Masks

It is mainly used to isolate the wound surface from contamination by oral and nasal gas. It should be noted that you must wash your hands before and after wearing, and replace it immediately after wearing it once.

8. Flashlight

It can be used for lighting when rescuing people in a dark environment, and can also be used to provide pupil response for people who have fainted.

9. 0.9% saline

Used to clean wounds. Based on hygiene requirements, it is best to choose independent small packages or medium-sized bottles. It should be noted that the remaining materials after opening should be thrown away and not put into the first aid kit. If not available, unopened distilled water or mineral water can be used instead.

10. Disinfectant wipes

Used for skin cleaning, sterilization and disinfection. Just tear open the package and apply directly to the skin.

11. Cling film

Taking advantage of its property of not sticking to the wound, wrap the burned or scalded area before sending to the hospital.

12. Ice pack

Place it on a bruise, muscle strain or joint sprain to constrict the capillaries and help reduce swelling. When a nosebleed occurs, placing it on the forehead of the injured person can help stop the bleeding.

13. Antibiotic ointment

Such as chloramphenicol ointment and erythromycin ointment, which are used for abrasions on the knees and elbows to protect the exposed inner skin. Note: Do not use antibiotics casually, please read the instructions carefully. Or as directed by your doctor.

14. Topical antihistamines and aspirin (or other over-the-counter analgesics)

Antihistamines are mainly used for anti-allergic purposes, such as chlorpheniramine, astemizole, diphenhydramine, etc.

Analgesics such as aspirin, analgesics, indomethacin, etc. are used to relieve mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, joint pain, toothache, muscle pain, neuralgia, and dysmenorrhea. At least three to five days' supply should be prepared. If there is no improvement after 5 hours of taking the medicine, please go to the hospital as soon as possible to avoid delaying the disease.

The above reserve suggestions are for families where there are no special diseases among the general family members. With the above reserves, common diseases such as colds and headaches or emergencies such as minor burns can be dealt with promptly at home. If there are infants, elderly people or people with special diseases in the family, it is even more important to prepare a home first aid kit. Families with special needs are advised to consult a professional doctor to prescribe a first aid kit list specifically suitable for their family.
