There is no pure protein food in nature. Protein is the material basis of life. There is no life without protein. Therefore, it is a substance that is closely related to life and various forms of life activities. Proteins are involved in every cell and all important components of the body. Protein accounts for 16% to 20% of the human body weight, which means that an adult weighing 60 kg contains about 9.6 to 12 kg of protein in his body. There are many types of proteins in the human body, with different properties and functions, but they are all composed of more than 20 kinds of amino acids in different proportions and are constantly metabolized and renewed in the body.

Protein is an essential nutrient for the human body, and we need to pay attention to the intake of high-protein foods in daily life. High-protein foods include animal proteins such as milk, meat, poultry, eggs, fish, and shrimp; another type is plant protein such as beans such as soybeans, lima beans, and black beans, and dried fruits such as sesame seeds, melon seeds, walnuts, almonds, and pine nuts. Because the types and proportions of amino acids contained in animal protein are more in line with human needs, animal protein has higher nutritional value than plant protein.

Among foods, beans, peanuts, meat, milk, eggs, fish and shrimp contain higher levels of protein, while cereals contain less, and vegetables and fruits contain even less. The human body's need for protein depends not only on the protein content, but also on the types and proportions of essential amino acids contained in the protein. Because the types and proportions of amino acids contained in animal protein are more in line with human needs, animal protein has higher nutritional value than plant protein.

Among plant foods, the protein contained in rice and flour lacks lysine, while bean protein lacks methionine and cysteine. Therefore, eating mixed foods has a complementary function and improves the utilization rate of mixed proteins. If an appropriate amount of animal protein is supplemented, the nutritional value of protein in the diet can be improved. Although the protein content in human milk, cow's milk and eggs is low, the amount of essential amino acids they contain is basically consistent with that of the human body, so their nutritional value is higher.
