Huanggang is not only outstanding in education, it also has many special snacks, such as Macheng meat cake, Dongpo braised pork, Shaomei, etc., which are all very delicious special snacks. Macheng meat cake is one of the traditional Han dishes of Macheng, Hubei. Remove the bones and skin of fresh fish, and remove the bones and skin of pork, and chop them into meat paste. Put sweet potato starch, water and salt in proportion into a bowl and mix with the meat paste. Add minced ginger, chopped green onion and other condiments, shape into round or square shapes, put into a steamer, and steam on high heat for 15 to 20 minutes. After the meat cake is out of the steamer, cut it into rectangular slices and arrange them on a fresh flower bowl in a pagoda shape. It can be cooked or refrigerated, and it tastes delicious.

Dongpo Braised Pork is a very distinctive traditional Han dish and a Hakka dish. The method is to wash the meat, fry it in oil to make the skin crispy, then color it and fry it again, then marinate it, put it in a steamer and steam it over low heat for 12 hours. When it comes out of the cage, it is golden in color, fat but not greasy, sweet and salty, with a rich aroma and a full meaty texture in the mouth.

Shaomei, also known as Huangzhou Shaomei and Dongpo Shaomei, is a traditional dessert of Huangzhou Prefecture and one of the "Three Wonders of Huangzhou". It is located in Huanggang City, Hubei Province, Huangzhou District, formerly known as Huangzhou. According to legend, it was created in the early Northern Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 900 years. Huangzhou Shaomei can be steamed in a steamer or fried in sesame oil. Huangzhou people always like to make Shaomei and prepare "Shaomei wine" for every wedding and festival. Shaomei is a famous delicacy for Huangzhou people to entertain guests.

Su Dongpo was demoted to Huangzhou, Hubei. When he first arrived in Huangzhou, he wrote a poem praising Huangzhou as "the fish are delicious because the Yangtze River flows around the corridor." Huangzhou produces a kind of fish, commonly known as "fathead fish", which has a fat head and a big mouth. Locals often use "fathead fish" to make soup. It is said that Su Dongpo liked to drink this kind of fish soup very much. He improved it by adding tofu to make it taste better. It has been passed down to this day and has become a famous dish in Huangzhou.
