How to make German Thousand Layer Cake

Do you salivate every time you see a food show on TV? But when I wanted to follow along, I found that the show had already ended. Don’t be discouraged. Today I will teach you the specific steps of making German Thousand Layer Cake.

1. Raw materials. I used amarula cream liqueur, a specialty of South Africa, instead of rum, which has a richer and more unique flavor.

2. Mix flour, corn starch and baking powder and sift three times.

3. Add most of the sugar to the butter and beat until fluffy (leave a small amount of sugar for beating the egg whites). Gradually add egg yolk and beat until combined.

4. Add rum (I added cream liqueur) and beat until well combined, then add two egg whites and beat until well combined.

5. Gradually add flour to make a uniform batter.

6. Add the remaining sugar to the four egg whites and beat until dry peaks form. Add to batter and mix well.

7. Mix all the egg batter evenly.

8. Grease and powder the mold. Scoop three tablespoons of batter into the pan. Use the bottom of a spoon to gently spread the batter into a thin layer.

9. Put it in the oven and use the grill function (note, not baking, but grilling for barbecue) for three to four minutes until the surface is golden brown, then take it out.

10. Add three more spoonfuls of batter and spread it. (The first layer is harder to spread because there is dry powder on the bottom of the mold; the subsequent layers will be easier.) Put it back into the oven and repeat the previous steps for three to five minutes. Repeat this process a dozen times until all the batter is baked.

11. Add 150 grams of light cream to 100 grams of chocolate, heat in the microwave for 1 minute, mix well to make a chocolate coating paste, and apply it on the outside of the cake.

12. Take a little whipped cream, squeeze it into a spiral pattern and apply it on the chocolate topping.

13. Use a toothpick or a knife to create radial patterns from the center outwards.

14. Cut a piece, the layers of patterns are just like the growth rings and texture of a tree. Take a bite, the rich aroma melts on the tip of your tongue and swirls in your mouth, making its charm irresistible. The hard work is really worth it!
