Winter diet precautions

1. The food should be sufficient and the energy should be balanced.

In winter, the weather is freezing cold. Residents living in the north have heating facilities. Although they feel cold when they are outdoors, it is as warm as spring indoors. But in the south, there is no central heating facility indoors, the temperature indoors and outdoors is the same, or even colder indoors than outdoors. The human body's need for energy increases, and we need to pay attention to adequate energy supply. To ensure sufficient amount of staple food, it is recommended to eat half a catty to eight taels of cereal food every day. In addition to steamed bread, rice, and corn bread, you can use both soft and hard foods and drink porridge frequently.

Animal food is not only rich in protein, but also contains a certain amount of fat, which can enhance the body's immunity and improve the ability to resist cold and disease. You should have 3 liang to 1.5 jin of animal food every day, which can include lean meat, eggs, poultry, fish or milk, and change the types frequently.

2. Eat less raw and cold food, and drink more porridge and soup.

Eating raw and cold food in winter can easily irritate the stomach and intestines, causing abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc. Therefore, it is also important to pay attention to choosing the appropriate cooking method. It is recommended to use stewing, boiling, steaming, braising and other cooking methods as much as possible when processing winter food. This will make it easier to preserve food nutrients and is beneficial to health.

3. Eat more fruits and vegetables to strengthen your body and resist diseases.

Winter is dry, especially in the northern regions, and dry stools are common due to eating more meat. Vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as dietary fiber, which can enhance the body's immunity, improve the body's ability to adapt to the cold, have a good protective effect on blood vessels, promote gastrointestinal motility, and prevent constipation. Therefore, attention should be paid to the supplementation of fruits and vegetables. Vegetables can be carrots, white radishes, cabbage, potatoes, yam, lotus root, spinach, rapeseed, celery, mushrooms, winter bamboo shoots, baby cabbage, etc., and fruits can be apples, pears, kiwis, bananas, grapefruits, citrus, etc.

4. Supplement in moderation and stop when needed.

Winter is cold, the daylight hours are shorter, and people's outdoor activities decrease, making it easy to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Pay attention to eating foods rich in calcium and vitamin D regularly, such as milk, soy products, seafood, animal liver, etc. The fresh vegetables and fruits available in winter are not as abundant as those in summer and autumn, and it is easy to suffer from insufficient intake of some vitamins and minerals. Therefore, you can choose nutrient supplements to make up for the deficiencies in your diet, such as vitamin C, vitamin D, etc. But it should not be used as the main source of nutrients. The principle is to use it in moderation and not in excess!
