Is cesarean section the same as normal birth and confinement period?

The methods of childbirth for pregnant women are natural birth and cesarean section. After giving birth, the mother needs to stay in confinement for a month. This is a relatively traditional custom in China. For both natural and cesarean sections, there are many similarities in confinement. Of course, there are also some differences. After all, cesarean section requires surgery, and in this regard, one should eat more foods that help promote wound healing.

Postpartum meals for normal delivery:

Week 1: Eliminate lochia, waste water, waste gas and old waste

Sesame oil pork liver: breaks up blood clots in the uterus to facilitate discharge (don’t worry about increased cholesterol)

Shouwu fish soup: The meat is soft and easy to absorb, fresh river fish is enough

Liver nourishing soup: magical tea that helps the liver detoxify, cesarean section can remove toxicity (memory loss, hair loss), protect the liver

Red bean soup: It strengthens the heart and promotes urination, allowing waste water in the body to be discharged through normal channels. Eating too much can cause bloating, so only two bowls are allowed.

Glutinous rice porridge: sticky, stimulates the intestines, restores peristalsis, and prevents visceral sagging. Limited to two bowls

Postpartum drinks: beauty tea, thirst quencher, brewing for women's treasure

Medicinal pork liver: Si Shen porridge, for those who have undergone caesarean section or miscarriage, for replenishing qi in the first three days

Week 2: Contraction of the uterus and pelvic cavity

Sesame oil pork kidney: contract the uterus and pelvic cavity

Seasonal vegetables: Prevent constipation and replenish qi, choose more red vegetables and avoid cold vegetables

Barley rice: less starch and more diuretic

Week 3: Nutritional supplement and physical recovery

Sesame oil chicken: protein supplement

Black and red fish: Supplement nutrition. People who have undergone caesarean section can eat sea bass.

Vegetables: provide fiber and promote digestion

Fresh mushroom and fish soup: promote metabolism and improve immunity

Fruits: To neutralize the dryness and heat of the body, choose sweet and low-water fruits, such as grapes, papaya, and dates.

Peanut pig's feet: promote milk secretion, for those with no milk or insufficient milk

Postpartum meals for caesarean section:

During laparotomy, the intestinal function is stimulated due to irritation of the intestinal tract. The intestinal motility slows down and there is gas accumulation in the intestinal cavity, which can easily cause abdominal distension after the operation. It is advisable to take some gas-releasing foods (radish soup, etc.) within 6 hours to enhance intestinal motility, promote gas discharge, reduce abdominal distension and make urination and defecation smooth. Mothers should also eat less or eat foods that are easy to ferment and produce gas, such as sugars, soybeans, soy milk, starch, etc. to prevent abdominal distension. When the mother passes gas, her diet changes from liquid to semi-liquid food, it should be nutritious and easily digestible egg soup, porridge, noodles, etc. according to the mother's physique, and then gradually return to normal. After the operation, the mother should avoid eating chicken soup, crucian carp soup and other greasy meat soups and lactation foods too early, and then eat them 7 to 10 days after the operation.

Postpartum eating tips:

1 to 2 days after delivery: The digestive ability of the mother is weak, so she should eat easily digestible food and avoid greasy food.

3 to 4 days after delivery: Do not rush to drink too much soup to avoid excessive breast milk congestion.

1 week after delivery: The mother has a normal appetite and can eat fish, eggs, poultry, etc., preferably made into soup. Avoid eating foods that cause bloating. After a cesarean section, mothers should eat less or no foods that are easy to ferment and produce gas, such as sugars, soybeans, soy milk, starch, etc., to prevent bloating.

Dietary taboos after cesarean section: 1. Do not eat eggs and milk within one week after the operation to avoid bloating; 2. Avoid greasy food; 3. Avoid eating dark-pigmented foods to avoid darkening the color of the scar; 4. Avoid irritating foods such as coffee, tea, chili, and alcohol; 5. Do not eat raw and cold foods (cabbage, white radish, watermelon, pear, etc.) for 40 days.

Three dietary treatments after cesarean section:

Dietary therapy recipe 1: Take 5 grams of angelica, 3 grams of astragalus, and 5 grams of tongcao. Use these three Chinese medicines to boil a bowl of medicine juice every day. Add a spoonful of it to various foods given to the postpartum woman. This way, the smell of the Chinese medicine is not strong, and it can play the role of replenishing qi and blood, and promoting lactation. At the same time, the dosage of the three Chinese medicines is not large, which is suitable for people with weak bodies to slowly replenish their body without causing internal heat.

Dietary therapy recipe 2: Take 1 pound of eel and half a pound of lean pork, add 5 to 8 slices of ginger, 2 to 3 scallions, and 10 cloves of garlic, then add seasonings and braise. Regular consumption can nourish the kidneys, remove kidney cold, and replenish blood. It can treat body aches, weak waist and knees, and weakness in the limbs.

Dietary therapy recipe three: Wash the red dates and put them in an iron pan and fry until the skin turns black. Put them in a bottle for later use. Take 4 to 6 fried red dates and 4 to 6 longans every day, make tea with water and drink it frequently. People with excessive internal heat can add 6 to 10 wolfberries to the drink. Red dates have a warming effect after being fried in an iron pan. At the same time, the fried red dates are easy to soak and their nutrients can be fully utilized. Therefore, drinking this tea every day can replenish qi and blood, regulate the spleen and stomach, treat insomnia, and stop sweating.
