The consequences of eating spoiled food are serious.

Eating spoiled food is very likely to cause poisoning, such as vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, arrhythmia, high blood pressure and other symptoms. Therefore, in daily life, remember not to think that spoiled food can be eaten as long as it is sterilized.

1. Moldy peanuts, corn, rice and their products: contain large amounts of aflatoxin, which can cause fever, vomiting, jaundice, coma, convulsions, and even death from acute poisoning. Aflatoxin is resistant to high temperatures, is highly carcinogenic, and is especially destructive to the liver. Therefore, it is best to store the purchased food in a ventilated, dry, low-temperature, and low-oxygen place. Do not eat it if it gets moldy.

2. Spoiled fish, shrimp and crabs: Enzymes produced by some bacteria, yeast and mold will decompose the proteins in dead aquatic products, producing toxic substances such as amines, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc. The poisoning will manifest as skin flushing, conjunctival congestion, chest tightness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms. When the fish eyes are cloudy, the scales are dull, and the shells of shrimps and crabs are red, these are signs that the fish are not fresh.

3. Moldy sugarcane: The main symptoms are dull, grayish skin, soft texture, light brown flesh, and a musty or sour smell. The toxic fungus in moldy sugarcane, namely Aspergillus sacchariflorus, produces neurotoxins that mainly damage the central nervous system. After consumption, digestive dysfunction and neurological symptoms will occur successively, and patients often die of respiratory failure.

4. Unhygienic homemade fermented foods: Homemade fermented foods such as stinky tofu and bean paste are stored in poor hygiene conditions for a long time and are accompanied by an oxygen-deficient environment. They are not heated or heated insufficiently when eaten, which causes Clostridium botulinum to produce botulinum toxin and cause poisoning. Symptoms may include blurred vision, slurred speech, dilated pupils, muscle paralysis, respiratory failure, and death.

5. Partially rotten apples: When an apple becomes partially spoiled, we often like to cut off the bad part before eating it. In fact, the whole apple has been contaminated by bacteria and has deteriorated, but it has not shown signs of rot yet. It will taste bitter when eaten, and may even cause poisoning symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

6. Spotted sweet potatoes: When sweet potatoes are stored for too long, exposed to moisture, or have broken skin, they are susceptible to black spot disease, which causes brown or black spots to grow on the skin, or the skin to become shriveled and concave, and the core of the potato to become hard and bitter. The toxins contained in sweet potatoes are heat-resistant, so eating raw or cooked sweet potatoes with black spots can cause poisoning, with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in severe cases, fever, asthma, convulsions, coma, and even death. Therefore, once the sweet potatoes develop black spots, become hard, bitter, or moldy, do not eat them.

7. Rotten ginger: Rotten ginger produces a very toxic substance called safrole. After consumption, it will cause poisoning and damage to liver cells, and even induce serious consequences such as esophageal cancer and liver cancer. Therefore, be sure to buy dried ginger that is not rotten or even tastes bad. It should also be kept dry and free from frostbite during storage.

8. Rootless bean sprouts: Generally, when growing soybean sprouts and mung bean sprouts at home, you only need to filter the water and keep it warm every day. However, we will also see some fat and rootless bean sprouts in the market. These bean sprouts will have some chemical substances remaining in them, and long-term and excessive consumption will cause poisoning. You can buy relatively safe "stupidly grown" bean sprouts, or try to grow some bean sprouts yourself.

Safe food can maintain human health, while toxic food will definitely endanger human health and even cost lives. As the saying goes, "Diseases come from the mouth." For some poisonous foods, we should not feel sorry for throwing them away, and we must not have the terrible idea that "I feel I have strong resistance and it doesn't matter if I eat them." Because they are like a time bomb, there will always be a moment when they endanger life and health. We must build a line of defense against food "entrance." Remember: Do not eat poisonous food!
