The general way to eat passion fruit is to cut it open and eat it fresh, but what many people don’t know is that its peel can actually be made into dried fruit, which not only has a unique taste but also has high nutritional value. The production process is a bit complicated, but easy to learn. You only need to remove the skin to leave the purple-red shell, then remove the white substance inside, then cut into strips, dry it, add seasoning and stir-fry.

How to make preserved fruit from passion fruit peel

1. Cut the top of the fresh passion fruit with a knife, scoop out the seeds and juice inside with a spoon and pour them into a sealed jar, add two pounds of rock sugar. It is best to shake it up and down a few times every day to make it evenly distributed, and wait until all the rock sugar melts. Every time you drink it, you only need to add cold boiled water, it tastes sour and sweet, and it is so delicious!

2. After making the fruit nectar, use a peeler to peel the remaining fruit peel to reveal the purple-red flesh shell, then cut the flesh shell into two parts, use a stainless steel spoon to scrape off the white residue inside to make it smooth, and set aside.

3. Cut the collected flesh into strips. The peels I cut weighed about two pounds. Be careful not to cut it too thin, as it will be hard to chew after being made into preserved fruits.

3. Non-stick pan (it must be non-stick! Otherwise, it will make you cry if it gets stuck. I use a Tupperware frying pan). Put 600 grams of rock sugar in the bottom, pour the peel on top, cover the pot, and use the induction cooker at 300 watts. When you see the sugar juice at the bottom, turn to high heat at 1600 watts. This process is easy to get stuck, so you must turn it frequently. When the rock sugar is completely melted, turn to medium heat at 600 watts, continue to turn it frequently, and slowly turn it over until you can no longer see the sugar juice. When there is basically no sugar juice, turn to the minimum temperature of 120 watts, spread the fruit pulp against the edge of the pot, do not cover the pot, and bake it slowly. No need to stir-fry. Such a low temperature will not get stuck! Bake for about one or two hours until the fruit pulp is dry and you can turn off the heat!

5. The whole cooking process takes about three or four hours, and it requires a relatively high level of skillet. I use a Tupperware wok. You need to cover the pot at the beginning, but not at the rest of the time. Before the syrup dries, you must be diligent and turn it over frequently!

Precautions for eating passion fruit

1. People with digestive system diseases or poor stomach should eat with caution.

2. Passion fruit seeds are difficult to separate from the passion fruit, so when eating the fruit, you will inevitably eat the seeds. Some people may worry about the adverse effects of eating too many passion fruit seeds on the body. However, the seeds of passion fruit are edible and can add a crispy taste. So if you accidentally eat passion fruit seeds, don’t worry too much.

3. Passion fruit should not be stored in a sealed container. It can be kept fresh in the refrigerator but should not be frozen. It is best to store the fruit naked in a ventilated and dry place to prevent it from deteriorating.

How to eat passion fruit

1. Eat fresh directly: Cut the passion fruit in half, use a spoon to scoop out the pulp and eat it directly (the seeds are edible and rich in high-quality protein and high-quality fat).

2. Make juice: Take a passion fruit, cut it, scoop the pulp into a cup with a spoon, add 200 ml of water, add a little sugar to adjust the sweetness, stir it, and you will get a cup of nutritious juice with good color, aroma and taste. In addition, due to the different densities of the fruit pulp and natural super fiber contained in passion fruit juice, the stratification after being mixed and left to stand for a period of time is a normal physical phenomenon and has no effect on the quality.

3. Treatment of insomnia: In addition to its calming effect, passion fruit also helps improve sleep quality. Drinking a cup of tea made from it before going to bed every night can also help you fall asleep.

4. Lower blood pressure: take three passion fruits, about 200 ml of cold boiled water, a little honey, a little lemon juice, and a little crushed ice. Then wash the passion fruit, cut it, scoop out the pulp with a spoon, put it into a juicer, add honey, cold boiled water, and lemon juice, blend well, filter, pour into a cup, add crushed ice and drink.

For example, you can take out the juice inside the passion fruit, put it in an ice cream mold, and freeze it into popsicles. When you want to eat it, take one out of the refrigerator. This way, it can be preserved for more than a year.
