Will eating uncooked eggplant cause poisoning?

Eggplant is a very popular vegetable. It is often used in our cooking. The taste of eggplant is very delicious and can be accepted by many people. Although eggplant is delicious, it is almost never eaten raw because it contains alkali. Excessive consumption will cause discomfort to the body. Let's take a look at whether eating uncooked eggplant will cause poisoning?

Eggplant is a very popular "popular" vegetable. It has smooth meat, can be cooked in a variety of ways, and has a very low energy density. Although it is not considered a dark vegetable (only the skin is dark, not the flesh), and its nutritional value is not that impressive, it is very popular and is loved by people of all ages.

Many friends choose to eat eggplants that are not very ripe in order to enjoy their freshness and tenderness. The solanine content in such eggplants is higher than that in mature eggplants.

Speaking of another name, everyone must be familiar with it, that is solanine. As vegetables of the same family, Solanum genus, the content of solanine in sprouted potatoes is much higher than that in eggplant, so potatoes are more famous.

In addition to being related to the maturity period, the content of solanine is also affected by other factors. According to experimental measurements: the solanine content in the fruit is significantly higher than that in other organs such as stems and leaves; the solanine content in the pulp is much higher than that in the peel and stalk; the solanine content in purple eggplant is higher than that in green eggplant.

Excessive intake of solanine can indeed cause poisoning. The main symptoms of poisoning include itchy throat, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, etc. In severe cases, tinnitus, dehydration, coma, weak pulse, and difficulty breathing may occur.

But there is no need to worry. The solanine content in eggplant is generally low. According to the highest variety, you may experience nausea, vomiting and other discomfort reactions only if you eat about 450 grams of high-solanine eggplant each time. However, it is probably not easy for everyone to eat this amount each time on a daily basis.

If you really feel unwell due to eating too much eggplant, it is probably because you chose the wrong eggplant and ate too much.
