How to remove diesel smell from fish

How to remove diesel smell from fish

If the fish we buy has a diesel smell, we should be alert. It may be that the fish is contaminated. It may also be that unscrupulous merchants may add some oxygenants to prevent the fish from rotting during transportation, which causes the fish to have a diesel smell. For ordinary people like us, it is best not to eat such fish. If you really want to eat it, you must remove the diesel smell.

The following are the methods to remove it:

1. Soak the fish in salt water to remove the fishy smell. Pour 5 kilograms of water into a basin, add an appropriate amount of salt (usually half a tael) and stir to dilute it. Put the live fish you bought into the basin and let the fish breathe through its gills for 1 hour. This will expel the earthy and diesel smell from its body.

2. Wash fish with rice water to remove odor

The rice washing water left over from washing rice before cooking every day can also be recycled to remove odors. The most environmentally friendly way to remove odors is to soak the slaughtered fish in rice washing water and then wash it.

3. Use tea to remove odor

After gutting the fish and cleaning it, soak it in a basin of tea for 5-10 minutes to remove the odor. Usually, for a fish of 1-2 jin, a cup of strong tea diluted into light tea will do.

There are two possible reasons why fish may smell like diesel:

One possibility is that some oxygenators were added during transportation, which may have produced the diesel smell;

Another possibility is that the fish was caught from polluted waters and may also smell like diesel. Eating this fish lightly may make you sick, and eating it frequently may cause cancer. It is recommended to give up this fish with a diesel smell.

4 types of fish that cannot be eaten?

1. Deformed fish

Other things to avoid include eating deformed fish, fish gallbladders, and dead turtles and eels.

Toxic fish include fish contaminated by phenol, heavy metals or pesticides, fish containing biological toxins in their bodies, etc. Fish and shrimp with a strong kerosene smell are the result of phenol pollution; eating large marine fish such as shark, tuna, swordfish, mackerel and tilefish all the time can easily lead to mercury poisoning. It is particularly important to emphasize that pregnant women, breastfeeding women and women who are planning to become pregnant should not eat these fish.
