How long to soak seaweed

How long to soak seaweed

Nori is a semi-finished product, and many people buy it directly from supermarkets. Before eating seaweed, you need to soak and wash it. Generally, the seaweed needs to be soaked for 15 to 20 minutes. Of course, if you want to eat cleaner and healthier seaweed, you still need to master certain methods to clean the seaweed. Below, we will give you a detailed introduction to the cleaning and shelf life of seaweed.

1. What is the normal color of seaweed?

Since seaweed contains natural pigments, the water used to make kimchi will appear light purple-red. This is normal as long as it is not turbid. However, if the blisters appear dark red, you need to be cautious. If some seaweed turns blue or other colors after being soaked in water, it means that it may have been contaminated by toxic substances when growing in the sea, and it is best not to eat it. In order to remove sand and toxins in seaweed, it should be soaked in clean water before eating, and the water should be changed at least twice to minimize harmful substances.

2. Shelf life of dried seaweed

The shelf life of dried seaweed is generally 12 months. Please consume it as soon as possible after opening. If you cannot finish it after opening, place it in a ventilated and dry place for 1 month. It cannot be eaten after the expiration date. Dried seaweed should be stored away from moisture and high temperature, and can be sealed and stored in the refrigerator.

The best dried seaweed is purple-red in color, free of sand or impurities, and dry. Otherwise, the quality is poor. If the laver turns blue-purple after soaking in cold water, it means that the laver has been contaminated by toxic substances before drying and packaging. This laver is harmful to the human body and cannot be eaten.

3. How to clean dried seaweed

Many people believe that during processing, the surface of dried seaweed may be covered with dust or sand, and direct consumption may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, so it needs to be washed before consumption. So does dried seaweed need to be washed?

Generally speaking, the packaged dried seaweed sold on the market has been washed and can be eaten without washing. It is indeed difficult to clean dried seaweed. You can place the dried seaweed directly on the pot and turn it over with your hands on both sides. The process will take about twenty seconds. If there is sand, it will usually remain in the pot. If you pat it with your hands, the sand will fall off. The seaweed cooked after this process will be even more delicious.

If you really need to wash the dried seaweed, just soak it in a basin of water, let the sand and other impurities sink to the bottom, and then scoop up the seaweed.
