About gout diet

Gout is mostly caused by improper diet, so gout patients need to pay special attention to their diet. Improper diet can easily lead to recurrence of gout, which has a great impact on the patient's daily life. Gout patients cannot eat many foods in normal times, but some foods are good for health after eating. What are the dietary taboos for gout patients?

What are the dietary taboos for gout?

1. The most important thing for patients with gout is to eat less fatty foods, because too much fat will reduce the excretion of uric acid. For patients with gout and hyperlipidemia, fat intake should be controlled within 20% to 25% of total calories.

2. Drink plenty of water every day, replenish water in time, and eat less salt. It is also the key to gout. We should drink 2000ml to 3000ml every day to promote the excretion of uric acid. The amount of salt you eat should be limited to 2 to 5 grams per day.

3. In our daily diet, we should avoid eating animal offal, bone marrow, seafood, fermented food, beans and other foods, because they contain purine. Purine is a component in the cell nucleus. As long as the food contains cells, it contains purine. Animal foods contain more purine.

4. No alcohol. Use less strong seasonings or spices. Alcohol can easily cause lactic acid accumulation in the body, inhibit the excretion of uric acid, and easily induce gout. In addition, it is not advisable to use drugs that inhibit uric acid excretion.

5. Avoid eating hot pot. This is because the ingredients of hot pot are mainly animal offal, shrimp, shellfish, and seafood. Drinking beer will naturally add fuel to the fire. Surveys have shown that a hotpot meal can lead to purine intake that is 10 times, or even dozens of times, higher than a regular meal.

How to prevent gout

1. Prevent cold and overwork

Excessive exertion and cold can cause autonomic nervous system disorders, leading to vasoconstriction on the surface of the body and in the internal organs. Vascular constriction reduces uric acid excretion.

2. Eat less animal offal, fish and foods high in purine

Such as pork, beef, mutton, ham, sausage, chicken, duck, goose, rabbit, fish, shrimp, spinach, beans, mushrooms, etc., peanuts should also be eaten less. Don't drink too much, especially beer. You should drink plenty of water, eat more leavened foods, alkaline porridge (which can promote uric acid excretion) and all root vegetables. Most fruits are edible.

3. Prevent high blood lipids

Gout patients should have their blood lipids measured regularly. If the blood lipid concentration is high, you first need to control your diet, consume low-fat foods, avoid high-fat foods, and take lipid-lowering drugs when necessary to restore blood lipids to normal, reduce cardiovascular complications, and prevent gout attacks.

4. Avoid excessive drinking

In particular, beer and seafood should not be eaten together. If they are eaten together for a long time, it will often cause a decrease in purine excretion and cause gout.

5. Control weight and prevent obesity

Because obesity is mostly caused by metabolic disorders due to unreasonable diet. To control your weight, you need to control your diet and increase your exercise.
